Chinwe Nzerue-Obi is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has 4 years of experience in the mental health field. Chinwe has worked with and helped people of all ages overcome anger, anxiety, depression, grief, substance use/abuse, parenting and relationship issues, and much more. She has been privileged to help near school drop-outs get back into school, stay in school, and graduate. Chinwe is a Certified Christian Counselor for the benefit of clients who draw strength from their faith. She also holds a Multicultural Counseling Certification, enhancing her ability to work across ages, cultures, and countries.
Chinwe completed her Master of Education (MEd) in Counseling at the University of Houston. Prior to this, she was a practicing attorney from Nigeria, having graduated from the Counsel of Legal Education, Victoria Island, Lagos, with a law degree from the University of Jos. For Interventions, Chinwe's theoretical approach is solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) because she believes that when people “need help, help cannot wait.” She also uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help keep the mind and body whole.
No matter what the issue is, you too can be helped. When it is beyond us, rest assured that an adequate referral will be made. Chinwe believes that with determination and the will for a better life, you can work together to help you BE THE BEST YOU ARE CREATED TO BE.

Teens need a special approach to build trust and rapport. Teens have to be willing to participate and cannot be forced.
Using additional interventions along with traditional talk therapy such as crafts, sand tray therapy, and other games is effective.
Teens are very transparent in saying if they feel better if therapy is effective or not.
Parents need to understand that teens need privacy and that confidentiality is needed in counseling or trust cannot be maintained. Asking questions about what happens in sessions is very counter-productive.
Please make sure your teen is willing to participate in therapy and that they have goals for counseling.
Teen counseling helps young individuals better understand and manage the challenges that affect their mental health. Common challenges amongst teens include anxiety, depression, ADHD, and problematic relationships with food.
Teen counseling works by using multiple techniques, tailored to fit the teen’s unique needs — based on their age group, their challenges, and the severity of their challenges. It might involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, art therapy, and others for varying ages. In any case, Thriveworks teen therapists in Pearland have the expertise and experience to help young individuals at their level.
Signs that teens might need Teen counseling can be very subjective, as they are experiencing many changes and can have intense reactions to them. As parents, you know your child best and are best equipped to judge whether certain reactions are standard behaviors for your teen or whether they might be hinting at a larger problem. Even so, there are a few common signs and events that often point to a need for therapy, such as experiencing divorce or loss, grief, consistent low moods, teens distancing themselves and becoming isolated, losing interest in hobbies, excessive anger or irritability, substance use issues, and suicidal ideation, among others.
Teen counseling providers at Thriveworks in Pearland, TX offer both in person and online therapy by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The length of teen counseling depends on your teen’s needs as well as the goals that you and their therapist might have for them. Generally, teen counseling sessions will last for several months.
