My name is Autumn, and I was a peer support for 10 years before I became a clinician. I received my master's of social work from Salem State University, and I enjoy working with people who are creative and emotional. I have worked with people managing depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma/PTSD, bipolar, and schizoaffective disorder. I love to see my clients connecting to social supports, exploring their interests, and building relationships.
My primary focus is on client empowerment. This includes helping to identify environmental factors oppressing your growth and healing, how to navigate imperfect systems to meet your needs, and community building—because healing is not individual work. Healing happens with other people, within communities and relationships. Modalities I use include CBT, DBT, ACT, solution-focused brief therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy.
I can't wait to find the spark of inspiration that lights you up and helps you feel confident to follow your heart. Even one session might help you begin making amazing changes.

Premarital counseling is a type of therapy that helps couples prepare for and build a happy, successful marriage. Premarital therapists at Thriveworks in Newton, MA can help couples develop essential communication skills, identify potential conflict areas, and learn how to manage their specific relationship issues.
When you and your partner begin premarital counseling, your counselor will want to get to know you both as well as your relationship. In order to accomplish this, they will ask questions around the following:
If there is a particular area that they feel needs to be explored further (for example, you note that you and your partner have very different spending habits and views on money), they’ll guide the conversation in the given direction.
Premarital counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and through Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.
Generally speaking, Thriveworks premarital counseling in Newton typically lasts for 8-10 weeks. This, however, can vary depending on the counselor’s approach as well as the clients’ preferences and needs. For example, some couples might request additional sessions to work through problem areas that they’ve identified in their relationship pre-wedding.
Premarital counseling helps couples make these necessary preparations. These counselors can help couples work through any current tribulations, equip them with effective tools for addressing future issues, and ultimately assist couples in building a solid foundation for their marriage.
If you’re engaged or talking with your partner about marriage, consider working with a premarital counselor at Thriveworks Newton. Your Thriveworks counselor will assess your unique relationship and utilize their expertise to best help you. If you think you could benefit from these services, reach out to Thriveworks today.
As we touched on above, if you and your partner recently got engaged or are thinking about getting married, meeting with a premarital counselor can prove beneficial—as research has shown that couples who used this service were more satisfied with their marriage than those who did not. This rings true for couples with obvious challenges to work through, as well as those who were happy with their relationship prior to beginning premarital counseling.
So, how exactly do premarital counselors help their clients? While this varies from couple to couple, here are some popular topics that premarital counselors discuss with their clients:
Counseling sessions typically vary from counselor to counselor and client to client. For example, in premarital counseling, some counselors prefer to meet with each partner separately before holding a joint session. Others like to see and focus on the two together from the start. In any case, your premarital counselor at Thriveworks Newton will lead you and your partner in talking about your relationship, identifying any problem areas, discussing expectations for marriage, and lighting the right path for your future together.
Often, premarital counselors will use tools like Couples Resource Maps to aid their clients’ counseling journey. Each partner can use a map to identify and record resources that will help them resolve conflict down the road. They’ll come up with an action plan, such as stepping away to conduct breathing exercises before returning to a conversation or setting aside time to have a focused conversation.
It’s great that you are excited to plan your wedding and finally tie the knot with your beloved partner—however, it’s important that you take the necessary steps to ensure your future marriage stays happy and healthy for years to come. That’s where premarital counseling at Thriveworks Newton comes in. Our counselors can help you get ahead of the challenges that might threaten your relationship and assist you in successfully preserving your marriage.
