DBT is not a quick fix; it requires dedication, practice, and a willingness to learn and implement new skills. Clients ready to invest in their emotional well-being are more likely to experience significant positive changes, and when those positive changes are shown, I know there is progress. Positive changes include rating depression/anxiety on a lower scale of 0/10, changing their negative thoughts to be positive, showing the ability to use mindfulness, utilizing distress tolerance skills, and regulating emotions.
Clients can supplement their time in DBT by researching DBT, learning how to utilize the tools, and monitoring their progress. They can also ask questions and come up with solutions with their therapist on how to better supplement DBT with their personal time.
