Jaelyn Aragon is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who specializes in working with children, teens, and adults who are struggling to cope with issues related to addiction, depression, anxiety, undeveloped coping skills, chronic illness, family conflict, trauma, PTSD, sexual or physical abuse, parenting difficulties, and much more.
Jaelyn works from a person-centered approach that borrows strategies from narrative therapy and insights from an existential lens. She knows that the client is an expert on themselves, but may need guidance from a counselor to help navigate the trials and tribulations of life. Jaelyn’s journey into counseling began with her work at Safe Passage Children’s Advocacy Center, where she volunteered for over two years. The experience taught her the value of meeting a client at whatever place or mindset they are in, and she learned how to respond to a range of emotional situations while being an advocate for the client’s best interest.
Jaelyn knows that everyone carries experiences that help to shape who they are. She is devoted to helping people process those experiences. Reach out to schedule a session with her, where you'll work together as a team to start achieving your personal goals.
You deserve dedicated time with a mental health professional — it can be life-changing.

My go-to approach for teen counseling is to go at the client's pace. There is always room for growth and progress toward goals, and first I prioritize the therapeutic relationship. Therapy is a place an adolescent does not have to function under their role as student, daughter or son, athlete, significant other, etc., but can simply come as they are with what they have. I largely utilize CBT, DBT, and narrative therapy in my work with adolescents. The focus of these modalities is to learn the connection between thoughts/feelings/behaviors, interpersonal effectiveness and mindfulness tools, and to rewrite narratives about the life the client may be telling themselves to life into something more helpful.
Although this list is not exhaustive, some tools I teach in teen counseling include:
I know a client is making meaningful progress in teen counseling when they are able to report improved outcomes in various areas of life (home, school, friends, etc), and when their support systems affirm these improvements. Sometimes teen therapy is about “planting seeds” of growth — some of which will bloom during therapy, and others that may take more time to sprout.
In their personal time, clients can supplement their time in teen counseling by engaging in resources, relationships, and environments that more closely match the positive changes they would like to make. Parents and caregivers can support their teens by helping them get involved in activities of interest, opening dialogue for communication, and maintaining a commitment to staying curious about their teen and their potential.
To prepare for their first teen counseling session, a teen can rest assured knowing that there is nothing they need to do besides show up. If they would like, they can make a mental note of two things that they would like to see change or be different in their life.
Teen counseling helps young individuals better understand and manage the challenges that affect their mental health. Common challenges amongst teens include anxiety, depression, ADHD, and problematic relationships with food.
Teen counseling works by using multiple techniques, tailored to fit the teen’s unique needs — based on their age group, their challenges, and the severity of their challenges. It might involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, art therapy, and others for varying ages. In any case, Thriveworks teen therapists in Colorado Springs have the expertise and experience to help young individuals at their level.
Signs that teens might need Teen counseling can be very subjective, as they are experiencing many changes and can have intense reactions to them. As parents, you know your child best and are best equipped to judge whether certain reactions are standard behaviors for your teen or whether they might be hinting at a larger problem. Even so, there are a few common signs and events that often point to a need for therapy, such as experiencing divorce or loss, grief, consistent low moods, teens distancing themselves and becoming isolated, losing interest in hobbies, excessive anger or irritability, substance use issues, and suicidal ideation, among others.
Teen counseling providers at Thriveworks in Colorado Springs, CO offer both in person and online therapy by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The length of teen counseling depends on your teen’s needs as well as the goals that you and their therapist might have for them. Generally, teen counseling sessions will last for several months.
