Career counseling, sometimes called career coaching, helps individuals make informed career decisions. This type of counseling is led by one of our Bethlehem therapists who is trained to provide career development support.
Career counseling works to help you navigate your professional career and offer valuable information, such as required skill sets and/or education, regarding a particular position you may be considering. The following are common focuses of conversation that will help your career counselor best help you:
Career counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and via Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
Career counseling can last for weeks, months, or even years. It all depends on the goals that you’re looking to accomplish and whether you continue to want/need a counselor to help you reach your goals. Either way, our career counselors are here and ready to help you get on the right track.
Some people are natural-born leaders. Others have to put a lot of time and effort into becoming an authoritative figure. In any case, though, most individuals in leadership positions can benefit from improving upon their management skills.
Do you see the value in improving your management or leadership skills? The counselors at Thriveworks Bethlehem can assist you: whether you’re hoping to snag that promotion, you’re interested in a new leadership role, or you want to take your organization to new heights. Their wide-ranging skills can help you acquire or improve upon your own skills in your management position.
Management skills are those that an executive should possess and utilize in their leadership position. When used effectively, these skills can lead to greater success at the given organization, company, or workplace. Oftentimes, these abilities are learned through experience, but they can also be learned—or expanded—in counseling.
Without good management skills, an organization can’t thrive—it’ll likely plummet instead. That said, when leadership skills are optimized, the organization becomes a force to be reckoned with. These skills can be grouped into a few different categories. According to Robert Katz, a social psychologist, the basic breakdown is as follows:
All of these skills enable a manager to run a successful organization or business and achieve their goals. Ultimately, they help a manager ensure everything is running smoothly and going according to plan.
As mentioned previously, you can work to acquire or build on your management skills in counseling and get one step closer to your career goals. Here are a few essential skills your counselor can help you to understand and utilize to your benefit:
1) Effective communication
Effective communication skills are crucial for an individual in a leadership role. This can make or break a team’s functionality, determine whether or not a given job gets done properly, and ultimately affect the overall success of an organization. Your counselor can help you to understand which communication skills you lack and improve them.
2) Decision-making Another important skill set revolves around decision-making. Managers have to make important decisions day in and day out. Whether or not they make the right ones, though, depends on their decision-making skills. If you think yours could use some improvement, your counselor is here to help. They can help you to understand what goes into making the right decision as well as the importance of taking responsibility for the decision that you made, no matter the outcome.
3) Delegation Often, leaders have a difficult time delegating tasks. That said, delegation skills are incredibly important to a manager’s success. The hard truth is that you can’t do it all. That’s why it’s important you hire capable people whom you trust to help you get the job done. If your delegation skills need some work, your counselor knows just how to help. They’ll help you to see the value in delegation, understand your hesitation to delegate, and start allowing others to assist you.
These are just a few skills that prove important to a leadership role. Your counselor can help you develop or improve these skills as well as many others.
Are you looking for someone to help you expand your management skills? A counselor at Thriveworks Bethlehem is the right person for the job. Their wide set of skills, their extensive experience, and their determination will enable them to help you become the best manager you can be.
