About
As a counselor who has worked significantly with trauma, I understand that people have innate strengths and that there is power in being able to voice our stories and not carry the weight alone.
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with 6 years of experience. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who have been impacted by trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and ADHD. I also have experience supporting individuals coping with grief, loss, and traumatic brain injuries. I’m passionate about helping my clients navigate emotional challenges, strengthen their relationships, and discover the resilience within themselves to live fuller, more balanced lives.
I earned a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern New Hampshire University. I am trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing.
Healing takes courage, and I deeply value the strength it takes to begin that journey. My goal is to provide a warm and caring space where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered to create meaningful change. Together, we focus on progress, resilience, and healing in ways that truly matter to them.

As a Couple and Family therapist, I understand that we as humans are beautifully complex and that, when one area of our life changes, it casts ripples that reverberate into all other areas of life.
Benjamin Long is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 6 years of experience in the mental health care field working with individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan and with varying needs. In his work in Community Mental Health, Ben learned he enjoyed helping others look at their life holistically and reflectively to develop a non-judgmental approach to address their current struggles and life needs and support their goals in therapy. He enjoys exploring how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by the different institutions and systems people engage with (e.g. work, friends, family, community, etc.,) to identify different areas of intervention. This supports his engaging and collaborative approach that strives to bring positive, creative energies into the therapy room. In this way, Ben specializes in treating issues such as relationship dissatisfaction, depression, anxiety, men's issues, stress management, and family life transitions.
Ben completed his Master of Mental Health Counseling at William James College (formerly the Massachusetts Professional School of Psychology) in 2019 and graduated with a concentration in Couples and Family Therapy. In his studies, Ben found a passion for learning and integrating different evidenced-based therapies to develop treatment plans that are sensitive to the specific needs of each individual, couple, or family that walks through his door. Often, Ben pulls concepts from internal family systems, cognitive therapies (CBT/DBT), motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based therapies to support the needs of the people he serves. Ben believes that, at our core, all people have an innate guiding force that can support living a life of peace and integrity that is aligned with their values. Ben enjoys meeting each person where they are while maintaining unconditional positive regard and respect for all of their personhood. He strives to balance the varying perspective in the room with the goal of shared understanding to work to find common ground. Through exploring in this way, Ben works to guide others in taking meaningful steps toward change that are aligned with their life goals, values, and beliefs.

Family therapy helps families resolve conflicts and strengthen their relationships. It is led by qualified mental health professionals like psychologists, licensed professional counselors (LPCs), and licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) who have extensive training in family dynamics and group communication.
Thriveworks family therapists in Bedford, NH usually begin by asking what everyone’s goals are for family counseling. Family members may need help with very specific issues or with general relationship functioning. But there are three main purposes in family counseling: to educate, to counsel, and to strengthen. Thriveworks also offers online family therapy and in-person services, so you may all meet in an office together or join a video call from your home depending on everyone’s location and availability.
The most effective form of Family therapy will often depend on the family itself, as there are many types of family therapy for therapists to use as they see fit in order to best meet the needs of their clients. However, one of the most commonly used types of family therapy is structural family therapy (SFT). SFT focuses specifically on family dynamics and interactions, looking at how they shape the relationships and structure present in the family. It can be effectively used to treat a variety of concerns.
This answer often looks different to each family that starts family therapy. However, some signs that your family might need to consider family counseling include frequent fights or misunderstandings, constant tension, experiencing loss, behavioral issues, marital issues, divorce, and blended family issues, among others.
In family therapy, therapists will often start by asking questions and assessing individual and family dynamics. From there, they may employ therapeutic techniques such as structured family therapy, CBT, strategic family therapy, and more depending on the present concerns and conflicts. From there, a therapist will work to open lines of communication between family members and facilitate emotional healing and growth.
Family therapy can be incredibly successful, with some studies reporting a success rate of almost 90% for improving participants’ emotional and mental health, and around 66% for improving their physical health.
Thriveworks therapists in Bedford, NH offer both online family therapy and in-person family therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
Family therapy is usually short term and solution-focused, with most families accomplishing their goals in 12 sessions or fewer. However, it can also last for longer if the probles at hand are more complex — and that’s okay, too.
