Eileen Garrigan is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). She has been practicing for the past 20 years and works with adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families. Eileen is familiar with working with clients who have experienced or are experiencing trauma, relationship difficulties, anxiety, stress, grief, chronic illness, depression, and life transitions.
Eileen has a post-graduate certificate in Family Systems Solution Focused Therapy. When clients enter the therapeutic process, she is sensitive to their belief systems and current frame of mind. Therapy can provide clients with the tools to change perceptions, increase rational thinking, improve thought and communication patterns, and increase the level of healthy relationships. Her approach is to provide a safe, nonjudgemental space to explore the past, present, and future. Therapy gives clients the opportunity to be seen and heard in a safe, accepting environment. Sincerity, empathy, compassion, and authenticity are all important to the therapeutic relationship.
As a therapist, Eileen takes an active role in listening, empowering, and supporting her clients' subjective experiences. Together, you can examine the patterns that tend to influence dysfunctional belief systems. She combines techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, Creative Arts Therapies, Brief Dynamic Therapy, Psychoanalysis, and Solution Focused Therapy.

I am a Mental Health Counselor seeking licensure with 8 years of experience providing trauma-informed support to adolescent and adult clients. I have a background in holistic healing modalities that address all aspects of wellness, including physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. I feel honored to work with clients who dare to explore themselves and embrace vulnerability as they move toward healing, balance, and emotional well-being.
I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern New Hampshire University. I use trauma-informed approaches that honor each client’s unique needs, including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, person-centered talk therapy, psychodynamic techniques, strengths-based parts work, somatic therapy, and mindfulness.
I believe each of us has the inner wisdom and strength to create meaningful change, but sometimes it takes the right guide and tools to get there. My goal is to walk beside you with compassion and understanding as you rediscover your resilience, heal from within, and move toward a life of greater peace and fulfillment.

Lee Walker is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), and a former member of a military Special Operations unit with 45 years of experience in mental health/addictions treatment. He is very concerned regarding the impact of trauma (frequently underrated) and the disease course of addictions (also frequently underrated). He is optimistic that significant life improvement is possible for his clients, and is committed to working with them to see that potential. Leon’s specialties are PTDS, trauma, and addictions.
Lee earned his Bachelor's in Abnormal Psychology at Clark University and Master's at Assumption University. His military background exposed him to a wide range of life circumstances and difficulties that impact people—many of whom have given up hope. Lee teaches his clients to use rational emotive therapy and reality therapy to manage symptoms on their own.
Lee believes that all clients have the potential to conduct self-therapy so they have clinical tools and interventions at all times.

My go-to approach for treating anxiety is cognitive behavioral therapy. There is a lot of evidence that CBT is very effective for treating anxiety. With this approach, clients learn ways to reduce and manage their anxiety so they can live more fulfilling lives.
My go-to approach for working with clients who are suffering from depression is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I have seen clients benefit greatly from what CBT has to offer.
Some of the tools that I teach in therapy are mindfulness techniques, breathing strategies, stress management, cognitive restructuring strategies, and communication skills. With clients who are interested, I also will use exposure therapy strategies to help reduce their anxiety in anxiety-provoking situations.
I teach a variety of tools when working with clients struggling with depression, such as:
I know a client is making meaningful progress in anxiety therapy when they start to believe they can manage their anxiety. They will often report feeling less anxiety and that anxiety has less of an impact on them in their lives.
I know a client is making meaningful progress when they are feeling better and making the changes they have wanted to make. I observe clients becoming more active and engaged in their lives.
Clients can supplement their time in anxiety therapy by practicing the tools and strategies they have learned in sessions. This practice often helps in making faster progress reducing and managing anxiety.

Those who haven’t experienced depression sometimes think of it as a period of sadness that you can “just get over.” Unfortunately, depression is a lot more serious than just a bad day. Depression can cause you to lose interest in your favorite activities and even lose interest in just getting out of bed in the mornings. A bad day is something we all experience, but depression is often debilitating, requiring the help of a therapist and occasionally prescription medication to manage.
Similarly, anxiety can cause a list of difficulties, including high blood pressure and what feels like an inability to enjoy daily activities. If you’ve been suffering, contact us. Experienced, caring Thriveworks Counseling in Worcester depression therapists and anxiety therapists are ready to help you get out from under the dark cloud you’re living under.
To book a therapy appointment with one of our professionals, simply give our office a call. We’ll be here to help you when you need it and when you’re ready.
Depression and anxiety are separate disorders, but they often occur together. After a period of anxiety, the person suffering may become depressed about their experience. And if someone has been experiencing depression for a long time, it can cause them to develop anxiety. If you are only experiencing one or the other, they have overlapping symptoms that make it difficult to pin down which disorder you are experiencing without the help of a professional.
Fortunately, the counselors and therapists at Thriveworks Counseling in Worcester can help their clients manage both anxiety and depression. Channell explains how this might work for depression: “There are a variety of different techniques a clinician may use to help clients with depression. One of the most common and effective therapeutic treatments is cognitive-behavioral therapy or CBT. The basic premise of CBT is that our thoughts and attitudes contribute to our depressed mood.” Similarly, our thoughts and attitudes can cause anxiety, which means that CBT can help treat both depression and anxiety.
If you’re experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, or if you just know something is wrong, contact Thriveworks Counseling in Worcester. Our counselors have helped many clients overcome their depression or anxiety, and we are ready to help you too.
We don’t operate with a waiting list, and new clients can often meet with their provider within the week of their call, so help is available immediately. Thriveworks in Worcester, MA counselors look forward to helping you live the best life possible.
