Couples therapy and marriage counseling, also known as relationship counseling, helps couples work through their specific relationship issues. Some examples of common focuses within couples therapy and marriage counseling include:
The types of therapy used in couples and marriage counseling include:
At Thriveworks, Couples/marriage therapy is led by licensed professionals — often licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) — who are experts in their field and best-equipped to help couples.
The Gottman Method of couples therapy is a research-supported approach designed to enhance relationships by bolstering the bond between partners, resolving conflicts, and fostering shared meaning in their relationship through comprehensive assessments and tailored interventions that improve communication, trust, and the overall health of the partnership.
If you’re facing persistent relationship problems, communication breakdowns, or unresolved conflicts that are impacting your emotional well-being and happiness, Couples/marriage therapy may be beneficial for you.
While marriage and couple’s counseling is typically recommended for couples who are experiencing persistent or severe relationship issues, any relationship can benefit from attending these sessions.
Marriage and couples counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.
On average, couples attend marriage and couples counseling for 12 weeks. However, couples & marriage counseling may last longer or shorter, dependent on the couples’ needs, the challenges they’d like to work through, and the pace of their progress.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.
Marriage is marked with love, laughter, joy, connection, compassion. But we can’t just ignore the not-so-great bits: the anger, the frustration, the disagreements, the mess that we sometimes encounter. Every single couple experiences these bad moments and feelings, too—yes, even the couples that appear perfect. The truth is that none of us are perfect, and our relationships aren’t either. Take a moment to look at these examples:
Have you ever experienced one of these challenges in your own relationship? Are you in the throes of one of these challenges right now? Is there a separate challenge that’s pushing your buttons and threatening your relationship?
If you answered yes to any of the above, you might benefit from working with a couples therapist or marriage counselor. Both couples therapy and marriage counseling are led by relationship experts, of whom work to help their clients work through their given problems and improve their relationship. If this sounds like something you’d like to pursue and you live in the state of Indiana, you can schedule online couples therapy or marriage counseling at Thriveworks Indiana Counseling right now.
Marriage counseling and couples therapy help many couples build the relationships that they’ve dreamed of for months or even years. Now, we know that scheduling a counseling session for you and your partner might be a little intimidating, especially if you’ve never worked with a counselor before. It might help to remember that this is one small step toward a healthier, happier marriage or relationship for you and your partner.
The online couples therapists and marriage counselors at Thriveworks Indiana Counseling can help you in one of two mediums: over the phone or in video chat. In either instance, they can serve as that nonjudgmental, supportive third party who will guide you through tough conversations and steps necessary to rebuilding your relationship. Now, it might also comfort you to know that online counseling comes with many benefits that you might not get in the traditional approach to therapy. These perks include greater comfort, flexibility, reliability, and—of course—convenience.
The journey that you take with your couples or marriage counselor will depend on what your individual and relationship needs are. Why is this? Because we all have different needs, as do our relationships. Think back to the examples from earlier. One couple struggles to see eye to eye, while another struggles with financial stress. Your Thriveworks Indiana couples therapist or marriage counselor will look at the problems that are prevalent in your lives and relationship. Then, and only then, can they decide a treatment plan that will help you find success.
That said, you can expect to learn the following in working with one of our relationship experts:
