Starting Anger management therapy in Franklin

Can you get a therapist for anger issues?

Yes, there are therapists who help with anger via Anger management therapy. It’s a therapeutic process that an individual goes through to manage their anger and identify its triggers. They’re given clear instructions on how to improve their angry behavior as well as a safe space for opening up about their emotions.

How does anger management therapy work?

Once an individual’s triggers are identified, anger management therapy focuses on helping the individual process and respond to these emotions in a more positive and productive manner. The anger management therapist will provide coping strategies and ultimately help their client take back control of their anger.

What are the 5 keys to controlling anger?

The five keys to mastering anger include identifying triggers, pausing before reacting, calmly expressing emotions, discovering constructive outlets for frustration, and seeking professional assistance if necessary. Acquiring these skills through Anger management therapy empowers individuals to effectively manage and navigate their anger.

What is the best therapy for anger management?

The best therapy for anger management often involves cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which helps individuals identify and change patterns of thinking and behavior related to anger.

Is anger management therapy conducted in person or online?

Anger management therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How many sessions do I need for anger management?

Often, Anger management therapy lasts between 4-6 weeks. However, it can last longer, dependent on the individual’s needs.

With the right support, controlling your anger can be possible. We are here to help you get to the root of any anger in your life and control it so you can have a happier, more fulfilling life. You can make an appointment today by calling 617-360-7210.

What’s the Deal with Anger?

Anger is as much of the human psyche as fear or joy are. It has its place in the world, but only when it’s managed in a healthy way. Otherwise, the consequences effects more than the people around us, it affects us too!

Uncontrolled anger can take over our thoughts, emotions, and bodies. The physical effects are some of the most harmful, and can include:

  • Increased blood pressure
  • Liver and kidney damage
  • High cholesterol
  • Increased risk of coronary artery disease
  • Increased risk of a heart attack

But if anger is an emotion, how does it affect our body? Like many physiological phenomena, it all comes down to hormones. The “flight or fight” response releases stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline and is activated by anger. Neither cortisol nor adrenaline is innately bad, they’re actually crucial for our survival! So is anger. But long-term, these emotions and hormones begin to tear the body apart.

On a short-term timeline, angry thoughts and emotions can make their mark too. Studies have shown that anger is linked with depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. It increases the likelihood of failed relationships and strains interactions at work. The wonderful thing about the body and mind is that it can relearn, heal, and grow. Anger is controllable. Although anger management is difficult and can be confusing, Thriveworks Franklin is here to walk beside you as you grow and heal.

Do I Really Need Anger Management?

Anger is a pervasive issue. It affects all people of all walks in life. If you think your anger is negatively impacting your life in any way, that’s a good enough reason to come in. You deserve to be happy, and sometimes, seeing a professional counselor is the perfect way to get there. Thriveworks Franklin understands it takes courage to reach out for help. So, to help you with the decision, here are some signs that might mean anger is controlling you, and not the other way around.

  • People are avoiding you
  • You’ve lost relationships
  • People are afraid of talking with you
  • Your health is suffering
  • You are feeling depressed and/or anxious
  • You feel out of control when angry
  • You say and do things that you regret later

Anger can show its ugly head in any situation. But you are the boss of your emotions, and not the other way around. With a little guidance, you can regain control and have freedom from your anger.

What Does Anger Management Counseling Look Like?

Thriveworks Franklin is a judgement free space for everyone to come and practice the best strategies for them personally. That life you’ve always dreamed of is possible, and we are excited to begin the journey with you! So, call a Thriveworks Franklin therapist or counselor today at 617-360-7210.
