Starting Christian counseling

What is Christian counseling?

Christian counseling in Watertown is a form of faith-based counseling that utilizes psychological and spiritual techniques to guide and support. Often, Christian counselors often incorporate prayer and scripture-reading into treatment to help practicing Christians work through their challenges.

How does Christian counseling work?

Christian counseling works by focusing on themes of hope and healing through one’s faith. At Thriveworks, your Christian counselor will discuss Christian values and relate them to your unique struggles. You can expect to discuss the following with them:

  • Your Christian identity
  • Your relationship with God
  • What the bible says about your current challenges
  • How you can overcome your struggles in a way that aligns with your faith
  • How to channel your religion in a way that helps you heal

Is Christian counseling conducted in person or online?

Christian counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and via Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does Christian counseling last?

Christian counseling can last for a few weeks, months, or longer. It depends on what challenges the client might be working through, the severity of those challenges, as well as other needs or preferences.

Need more help deciding?

Grace has been a Christian for as long as she can remember. When she was younger, she volunteered for Bible School, summer camps, and community events. Now that she is older and working full-time, she has less time to dedicate to church. This makes Grace feel guilty and she is struggling to find a way to connect with God again.

In addition to her spiritual struggles, Maggie is having a hard time with her overall mental health. Her job is time-intensive and she can’t seem to make enough time for her family. As a newer mom, she feels guilty and constantly calls herself a bad parent. Not only does she want to improve her spiritual life, but her personal life as well.

In Grace’s situation, she could greatly benefit from working with a Christian therapist or counselor. They are dedicated, compassionate mental health professionals who practice with Jesus Christ and God in mind.

At Thriveworks Counseling in Watertown, MA, our Christian counselors are available to help you conquer all areas of your life. Our goal is to help all of our clients get through the tough spots of their mental health and set them up for a future of strong faith and healthy wellbeing. Should you decide that Christian counseling is the right fit for you, consider working with us. Call (617) 830-1704 to get started.

Can Christian Counseling Help Me?

During difficult times, it is important that we turn to God to ask for support and guidance. Although, that does not mean that we can’t turn to counseling when we need a little extra help. Asking for help does not make you or your faith weak. Turning to Christian counseling will help you build a stronger relationship with yourself and God in a judgment-free zone.

What Can I Expect During Christian Counseling?

Deciding to take the next step towards strengthening your faith and tackling your concerns is powerful. We understand that this can be an intimidating process when you don’t know what to expect. The uncertainty can cause you to feel nervous, however, we want to help ease your mind when going into your first session.

Our Christian coaches at Thriveworks Counseling in Watertown are caring, compassionate, and understanding. They combine lessons of faith with psychological practices to carefully craft a unique plan of action, tailored to your wants, needs, and goals. Once they find the appropriate treatment plan, they will then start working with you in a variety of ways such as:

  1. Biblical lessons: As a Christian coach, your counselor will directly pull from scripture during your sessions. It’s important to reflect in the bible to connect with God on a deeper level. This also allows you to strengthen your faith and use the bible as a way to help you get through future challenges.
  2. Prayer: Additionally, we understand how important it is to use prayer in our daily lives. Your counselor can help you during prayer and offer guidance if you are unsure of where to start.
  3. Therapeutic tools: In addition to prayer and scripture, a variety of therapeutic tools will be used. This may include ways to manage stress or anger, coping mechanisms, and more.
  4. Education: One of the most powerful tools is education. During your sessions, you will learn more and more about your faith and will connect with your Christian coach on a deeper and more meaningful level. Not only will you feel more educated in your faith, but your confidence will grow in your personal, work, and church life.

These are just some of the ways your counselor will connect with you during your sessions. There are so many ways to help you grow in faith and it’s important to remember it’s not just about the destination, but the journey.

For the past year my mental, emotional and physical health has been restored. By God's providence, I connected with a psychiatric nurse practitioner at your agency. She skillfully assessed my situation and quickly prescribed much needed medication. I was at an all time low. Because of her expertise, compassion, and support, my life was renewed. So incredibly grateful to have my life back again.

It was very difficult getting my account up. I believe that happens because when we initially signed up i made the account but it’s under my spouse insurance. After fixing the problem my not his account reflects our current therapy sessions. We get emails and text but when we sign into the thrivework accounts we can’t see the billing cycle to pay or see out upcoming session. Neither one of our accounts display update and current account information. And we have called a few times to get it right and it’s not working . My therapist and agency is splendid
