About
My passion is creating a safe, open, and non-judgmental space where you feel seen, heard, understood, and ready to explore life's challenges.
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with 17 years of experience supporting clients through trauma, anxiety, grief, and major life transitions. I began my career working with children and adolescents and later expanded my practice to include adults. I specialize in trauma, including religious and queer community trauma, and I help individuals build deeper self-connection and emotional awareness.
I earned my master’s degree in professional counseling from Liberty University. My therapeutic style is integrative, trauma-informed, and evidence-based. I draw from trauma-focused, narrative, cognitive behavioral therapy, somatic approaches, integrative therapy, and play therapy to meet each client’s unique needs.
I believe every person has the capacity for healing and growth. My goal is to provide a compassionate, relational, and safe space where you can explore your experiences, uncover your strengths, and move toward clarity and empowerment. If you are ready to begin your healing journey, I would be honored to support you.

When I'm working with clients who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety, I primarily use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques to give clients a clear understanding of all of the components that contribute to their emotional and mental responses. I also invite them to consider incorporating more self-compassion into how they think about themselves and the symptoms they experience.
When I begin working with a client who is experiencing uncomfortable symptoms of anxiety, I provide them with a lot of psychoeducation, along with some specific grounding tools that will help them reduce the intensity and duration of their symptoms. I've found that clients are relieved to learn about the aspects of brain functioning that activate their anxious responses. By providing grounding tools early on, I am beginning the process of empowering clients to develop tools that will enable them to manage their responses. Once we've spent time in these key areas, we can move on to working on more advanced strategies that are designed to provide clients with a better understanding of their beliefs, their habits, and their unmet needs, which may all contribute to the anxious response they're experiencing.
I know a client is making meaningful progress in reducing their anxiety symptoms when they share that they felt capable of effectively managing a recent stressful situation with less distress. I love these moments because I get the opportunity to cheer for my clients, acknowledging all of the hard work they have done that has gotten them to that point!
I often invite my clients to supplement their time in anxiety therapy by engaging in exercises and implementing strategies daily outside of session time. Clients will see improvements much more quickly and the tools will be much more effective if they are practiced often and used in real-life situations. It also gives them more confidence that the strategies that we discuss will actually work when they need them to!
To prepare for your first anxiety therapy session, it can be beneficial for you to reflect on what you would like to be different. Do you feel that these symptoms are preventing you from doing things? Do you want to reduce your discomfort when experiencing anxiety-producing thoughts or experiences? How would your life be different if you were not experiencing symptoms of anxiety that feel unmanageable? By exploring these questions prior to your appointment, you'll have a clearer idea of the initial goals you have for our work together.
Anxiety therapy helps people better understand and manage their anxiety. Anxiety therapists at Thriveworks in Reston, VA can develop a treatment plan that will help you better manage your day-to-day anxiety or your anxiety disorder.
Anxiety therapy involves talking to a therapist about symptoms, potential causes, and more. Thriveworks Reston therapists will then work with you to determine where your anxiety might stem from and teach you effective coping mechanisms.
One of the best ways to deal with anxiety is to learn about your own anxiety: your symptoms, what triggers it, and what coping mechanisms have been effective in the past. When you learn what your anxiety is tied to, it can help you be mindful of what’s really happening as well as prevent and mitigate symptoms by processing and working through the issue in therapy. Other strategies that have been shown to help manage anxiety are meditation, challenging anxious thoughts, exercising, and journaling.
Common symptoms of anxiety include:
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be incredibly effective in treating anxiety and anxiety disorders. Other effective techniques include exposure therapy, Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and EMDR therapy.
Anxiety therapy is conducted both in person and online, depending on the individual’s preferences and their therapist’s availability. We suggest choosing the option that best suits your needs.
On average, people can tend to attend 15 to 20 session of anxiety therapy (five or more months). However, this number is heavily dependent on the type of anxiety that’s being treated and its severity, with many choosing to attend anxiety therapy for a longer period of time to ensure its effectiveness long-term.
