What is your go-to approach for anxiety therapy?

My go-to approach for treating anxiety is mindfulness.

What tools do you teach in anxiety therapy?

I teach the following tools in anxiety therapy:

  • Mindfulness: to observe and identify thoughts, feelings, and sensations in the body in an objective manner.
  • Grounding techniques: exercises that may help you refocus on the present moment to distract yourself from anxious feelings.
  • Prevention skills: skills to help prevent anxiety from taking place.
  • Management skills: skills to help you manage anxiety when it is taking place.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in anxiety therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in anxiety therapy when they recognize a reduction in anxiety, and feel an improvement in their life satisfaction.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement anxiety therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in anxiety therapy with good rest, eating healthy, exercise, social activities, and mindful meditations.

What should someone do to prepare for starting anxiety therapy?

To prepare for your first anxiety therapy session, you can tell yourself it is okay to be anxious when starting therapy.

Starting Anxiety therapy

What is anxiety therapy?

Anxiety therapy helps people better understand and manage their anxiety. Anxiety therapists at Thriveworks in Orlando, FL can develop a treatment plan that will help you better manage your day-to-day anxiety or your anxiety disorder.

How does anxiety therapy work?

Anxiety therapy involves talking to a therapist about symptoms, potential causes, and more. Thriveworks Orlando therapists will then work with you to determine where your anxiety might stem from and teach you effective coping mechanisms.

How to deal with anxiety?

One of the best ways to deal with anxiety is to learn about your own anxiety: your symptoms, what triggers it, and what coping mechanisms have been effective in the past. When you learn what your anxiety is tied to, it can help you be mindful of what’s really happening as well as prevent and mitigate symptoms by processing and working through the issue in therapy. Other strategies that have been shown to help manage anxiety are meditation, challenging anxious thoughts, exercising, and journaling.

Symptoms of anxiety

Common symptoms of anxiety include:

  • Sense of impending danger
  • Nervousness/restlessness
  • Trouble focusing
  • Excessive sweating
  • Shaking
  • Headaches
  • Stomach issues
  • Fatigue
  • Panic attacks
  • Increased heart rate

What is the best therapy for anxiety?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be incredibly effective in treating anxiety and anxiety disorders. Other effective techniques include exposure therapy, Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and EMDR therapy.

Is anxiety therapy conducted in person or online?

Anxiety therapy is conducted both in person and online, depending on the individual’s preferences and their therapist’s availability. We suggest choosing the option that best suits your needs.

How long does anxiety therapy last?

On average, people can tend to attend 15 to 20 session of anxiety therapy (five or more months). However, this number is heavily dependent on the type of anxiety that’s being treated and its severity, with many choosing to attend anxiety therapy for a longer period of time to ensure its effectiveness long-term.

Is therapy worth it for anxiety?

Yes, it is worth going to therapy for anxiety. If you are struggling with regular anxious thoughts and feelings that are affecting your day-to-day life or you suspect that you have an anxiety disorder, you should seek expert anxiety help.

How Can Thriveworks Orlando Counseling Help with My Anxiety?

As we mentioned previously, many people who live with anxiety feel embarrassed or ashamed. They feel that seeking help for anxiety is a weakness. The truth is that it takes strength to ask for help—and many people do! Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people start working with a counselor. You really can reduce or eliminate the symptoms of anxiety with the help of a counselor—and Thriveworks Orlando Counseling is here to provide that help. Here’s how we are uniquely qualified to help:

  1. We understand what it’s like to experience anxiety. When a person hasn’t had anxiety in their life, they often think that it’s simply feeling nervous or scared. Those who deal with chronic anxiety know that it’s much more serious and can affect virtually every aspect of your life: eating habits, work or school, sleep, and relationships. People who experience chronic anxiety often feel that they have no control over their lives. We understand that this can feel scary and overwhelming, and we are here to help you get your anxiety under control.
  2. We can help you understand the reasons for your anxiety: Sometimes there’s an underlying cause for anxiety–usually it’s trauma. You may not realize that something that happened years ago is still having a negative impact on you. Thriveworks Orlando Counseling can help you uncover these issues in a safe, secure place where you can finally work through your trauma or any other underlying cause of your anxiety.
  3. We can assist you in getting to the root of the problem: In a perfect world, you’d simply take a pill and your anxiety would disappear. The reality is that though anxiety medications may be able to help you with the symptoms of anxiety, they can’t help with the root cause. Fortunately, Thriveworks Orlando Counseling can help with the root cause.
  4. We can create a customized treatment plan just for you: If treating anxiety was the same for everyone, then there’d be no need for counselors—you could simply talk to your general practitioner and get a medical treatment plan. The truth is that everyone comes to these issues from a different place. The right way out of anxiety is different for everyone. At Thriveworks Orlando Counseling we don’t treat you like just another client. We treat you as the individual you are and give you the tools you need to move forward.

If you like what you hear and are interested in working with one of our anxiety therapists, contact our office. We have a scheduling team on standby who will help you schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience.

Yeah, therapy is subjective so it's hard to rate a company based on one therapist encounter but I do have to include the company overall because it's essential to my comprehensive review. My therapist tried, was friendly and accommodating but just didn't work for me. The company overall is disjointed and maybe a little too big for proper management. You call a central number to get set up but when it comes to quitting the therapist it is up to you as the patient to do it all. Any attempt to log into the site gets redirected to an email link. The latest CSR I had unfortunately had a thick accent and was not really listening to me and my responses.

Hi I was a prior supervisor for Margaret in California where she did her post degree internship. She was a very skilled clinician who had many kids that were high-risk and lived in low-income families. Her relationship and interactive approach was very successful with these children and families. I was impressed with her skill and abilities. I would highly recommend her. Vicci
