Couples therapy and marriage counseling, also known as relationship counseling, helps couples work through their specific relationship issues. Some examples of common focuses within couples therapy and marriage counseling include:
The types of therapy used in couples and marriage counseling include:
At Thriveworks, Couples/marriage therapy is led by licensed professionals — often licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) — who are experts in their field and best-equipped to help couples.
The Gottman Method of couples therapy is a research-supported approach designed to enhance relationships by bolstering the bond between partners, resolving conflicts, and fostering shared meaning in their relationship through comprehensive assessments and tailored interventions that improve communication, trust, and the overall health of the partnership.
If you’re facing persistent relationship problems, communication breakdowns, or unresolved conflicts that are impacting your emotional well-being and happiness, Couples/marriage therapy may be beneficial for you.
While marriage and couple’s counseling is typically recommended for couples who are experiencing persistent or severe relationship issues, any relationship can benefit from attending these sessions.
Marriage and couples counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.
On average, couples attend marriage and couples counseling for 12 weeks. However, couples & marriage counseling may last longer or shorter, dependent on the couples’ needs, the challenges they’d like to work through, and the pace of their progress.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.
Relationships are full of happy memories, lots of love, and endless laughs. But they are also full of conflict, bickering, and hard conversations. Even the couples you see on social media who you consider to be “goals” have the same issues that you and your partner are likely facing. No relationship, no matter how long you have been together, has trials and tribulations. Consider these scenarios:
Chances are, you can relate to one of these situations. Whether you and your partner have been dating for less than a year or have been married for over 10 years, you could most likely benefit from speaking with a licensed psychologist. At Thriveworks Louisiana, we have marriage counselors and couples therapists who are trained and experienced in helping couples work through all different kinds of challenges and problems. Whether you need a little extra help working together or are trying to decide if breaking things off is the best decision, we can help you. If you feel like you and your significant other would greatly benefit from working with one of our counselors, consider reaching out today.
Starting therapy can be extremely hard and scary, especially if you have never done it before. Don’t worry. We will work closely with you every step of the way and can answer any questions or concerns you may have. When you choose to start couples therapy or marriage counseling, your counselor will listen to each of your individual goals, needs, and challenges. Hearing both partner’s side allows the therapist to come up with a customized plan of action that will address both sides. Our counselors have an unbiased approach to therapy so you can expect them to help you both equally.
Here at Thriveworks Louisiana, we have two different options for online counseling: phone and video chat. Both options are proven effective so you won’t have to worry about receiving less meaningful care than you would in-person. Online therapy is easy, convenient, comfortable, and reliable.
During your sessions, you and your partner will not only work through your concerns, you will be given the tools to tackle future challenges in a healthier manner. You can expect to tackle things in marriage counseling and couples therapy like:
And more! Just talk to your psychologist about any specific goals you and your partner may have.
There are so many different reasons as to why you and your partner may benefit from therapy. As we briefly mentioned before, our therapists and counselors are able to help their clients in many different areas. If you have a problem, chances are we can help you. Here is a list of common reasons why couples choose to go to therapy:
If you didn’t see your specific challenge on the list, don’t worry. It would be nearly impossible for us to list all of the reasons why partners should seek out the help of a professional. In addition to helping you work together, our psychologists can also help you make hard decisions like whether or not you should break up or get a divorce. While we will try our best to help our couples mend their relationships, sometimes it’s best for both of them to split. We dedicate ourselves to being the unbiased support and guidance you need.
If you and your partner are ready to start communicating better and rekindling that spark, we’re here and ready to go. To get started with one of our clinicians, you can visit our online booking portal or give us a call to be connected with a scheduling specialist. We have appointment times during days, evenings, and weekends and do not operate on a waitlist. In most cases, we can get you set up for your first session within 24 hours of your initial call.
Don’t wait any longer. You and your partner’s mental health should be a priority. Let us help you make the changes you are hoping for.
