About
As an Art Therapist by training, I provide talk therapy in conjunction with creative process techniques.
Sarah Jones is a Licensed Professional Counselor and an Art Therapist with 10 years of experience in individual therapy and child and family consultation work. She is passionate about combining art therapy and play techniques in her practice to help clients with adjustment issues, depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship issues, and major life transitions. During the pandemic, she opened her practice to more adult-focused work, performing telehealth sessions and leading group art therapy for cancer survivors. Sarah completed her Master of Science in Counseling and Art Therapy from Mount Mary University.
Sarah’s framework comes from a community art therapy model and her clinical training hours consisted of working with children and adults who have disabilities and/or who are neurodiverse. Sarah utilizes multiple treatment approaches including mindfulness, person-centered approaches, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and trauma-informed treatment.
Life brings many challenges. Sarah wants to support you through these challenges, helping to inspire your inner artist and healer. You do not need any art experience to seek therapy from Sarah, and if you prefer talk therapy, that is fine too. Sarah believes you are the expert in your life experiences—Sarah is a guide to help you through this tough time.

With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.
Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.
There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.
Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.
Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.
Kaitlin has been suffering in silence for months now. She knows that she needs to talk to someone, but she can’t bring herself to go to the local therapy office. She doesn’t want anyone to see her there, as she hasn’t talked to her friends or family about how she’s feeling. She will, but on her own time. Kaitlin isn’t ashamed of her depressive thoughts and feelings by any means—but she knows that right now, talking to her loved ones about it will only add to her declining mental health. She continues to search for a solution.
Online counseling is the solution that Kaitlin is looking for. This approach to counseling enables people just like Kaitlin to receive mental health help from the safety and convenience of home (or wherever else they choose). In Kaitlin’s case, she can work with her counselor over the phone or video, to avoid the risk of being seen at the office.
“Asking for help isn’t weak. It’s a great example of how to take care of yourself.” –Charlie Brown
Online or virtual counseling is the solution to many problems that people run into in their pursuit of mental health services. Online counseling can be traced all the way back to the year 1972: Staff members at UCLA and Stanford simulated a therapy session on two computers. Today, many clients engage in online counseling via video chat on their computers as well as over the telephone and in email.
Here at Thriveworks Washington, DC (Georgetown), the two main forms of online counseling offered are telephone counseling and video counseling:
In either case, you are not required to be high-tech, by any means! Online counseling is simple and effective. As we just touched on, you simply need to have service or internet connection as well as access to a device that allows you to make a phone call or enter a video chatroom like Skype.
Online counseling enables people to work through a range of mental health challenges, including symptoms of mental illness, difficult emotions like anger, grief and loss, conflicts with loved ones, and more. There are a few major differences, though, between online counseling and the traditional in-person counseling. For example, online counseling therapy can offer the following benefits:
Online counseling comes with many perks, of which might make online counseling the right counseling option for you! Your first online counseling session is just a call away.
If you’re interested in experiencing the above benefits of online counseling (and more), reach out to Thriveworks Washington, DC (Georgetown).
