As a clinician with lived experience balancing caregiving, resilience, and rebuilding, I understand the deep need for safety, compassion, and a place to breathe.
I am a registered mental health counselor intern (RMHCI) with 1 year of experience supporting adults navigating trauma, chronic stress, burnout, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. I often work with individuals who feel overwhelmed, stuck in survival mode, or disconnected from themselves, as well as high-functioning clients who have spent years prioritizing others and are seeking clarity, balance, and emotional grounding.
I earned my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Capella University. My clinical background includes work in outpatient, community, and school-based settings. I use a trauma-informed, nervous-system-aware approach that integrates mindfulness-based practices, parts work, and somatic awareness to support emotional regulation and insight.
You do not have to navigate this alone. I strive to create a safe, compassionate space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to understand your patterns, process unresolved experiences, and build healthier relationships with yourself and others. When you are ready, I invite you to take the next step toward the care you deserve.

The approach taken by most therapists for teen counseling is to establish trust and rapport, actively listen, and validate their experiences. They can provide psychoeducation on common teen issues, set achievable goals, and teach coping skills and problem-solving strategies. Encourage self-reflection, consider family involvement, and offer ongoing support and follow-up.
Clinicians will teach the following tools in teen counseling:
Clinicians know when a client is making meaningful progress in teen counseling is indicated by increased self-awareness, improved coping skills, behavioral changes, enhanced communication, better emotional regulation, more positive relationships, better goal achievement, increased self-efficacy, reduced symptoms, and sustained improvement over time. Regular assessment, feedback, and celebration of achievements are essential in recognizing progress.
Clients can supplement their time in teen counseling through various supplementary activities such as journaling, mindfulness, physical exercise, creative expression, peer support groups, self-help resources, healthy lifestyle choices, goal setting, problem-solving, and seeking social support. These activities can complement counseling and promote personal growth and well-being.
To prepare for their first teen counseling session, I would suggest that you:
Teen counseling helps young individuals better understand and manage the challenges that affect their mental health. Common challenges amongst teens include anxiety, depression, ADHD, and problematic relationships with food.
Teen counseling works by using multiple techniques, tailored to fit the teen’s unique needs — based on their age group, their challenges, and the severity of their challenges. It might involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, art therapy, and others for varying ages. In any case, Thriveworks teen therapists in Jacksonville have the expertise and experience to help young individuals at their level.
Signs that teens might need Teen counseling can be very subjective, as they are experiencing many changes and can have intense reactions to them. As parents, you know your child best and are best equipped to judge whether certain reactions are standard behaviors for your teen or whether they might be hinting at a larger problem. Even so, there are a few common signs and events that often point to a need for therapy, such as experiencing divorce or loss, grief, consistent low moods, teens distancing themselves and becoming isolated, losing interest in hobbies, excessive anger or irritability, substance use issues, and suicidal ideation, among others.
Teen counseling providers at Thriveworks in Jacksonville, FL offer both in person and online therapy by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The length of teen counseling depends on your teen’s needs as well as the goals that you and their therapist might have for them. Generally, teen counseling sessions will last for several months.
